Welcome to Marilyn Ridge!

Welcome to the official Marilyn Ridge Community Website.
This website has been created by the Home Owners Association of Marilyn Ridge to give neighbors a place to connect, find information about their community, and find ways to get more involved in it. The site will include basic information about the Noblesville, Indiana area, a calendar of events, a discussion forum, contact information and other valuable resources. It is our hope that this site becomes a wonderful way for neighbors to get to know each other more personally and work together to keep our neighborhood safe and beautiful.

It is also the desire of your Marilyn Ridge HOA Board to use this site as another avenue for constructive dialogue. If you have any questions at all for your board, we invite you to use this site as an opportunity to ask them. We warmly welcome all of your questions and concerns. After all, we are your neighbors!

December HOA Board Meeting

The December board meeting of the Marilyn Ridge homeowners’ association will be this Monday, December 19th at 6:30 pm in the Noblesville Public Library. All homeowners are welcome to attend. This month, we have two major topics to address…

Trash Can Policy
The current policy is that the trash and recylce bins cannot be visible from the front of the house and cannot be at the alley’s curb. Some homeowners have started a petition to change this back to requiring them to be stored in the garage. The board would like as much input as possible from homeowners for our decision. You can either attend the meeting or email me your opinion at mrharreld@yahoo.com.

2012 Budget and Dues
A budget for 2012 will be proposed and voted on by the board. This budget reduces the annual dues by $10 from 2011’s amount while still maintaining the same contracted services and allowing for more mailed communication from the board to all homeowners and renters. A few expenses were able to be cut back on to allow for a decrease in the dues. Once approved by the board, a detailed version of the budget will be mailed to all homeowners in January.

If you have any other questions, concerns, or comments, please let me know.

Fall Fix-ups

1. Beef Up Insulation in an Unfinished Attic
WHY NOW:
Baby, it’s cold outside—or it will be soon. “So pop your head up in the attic and check insulation levels,” says Mike Rogers of GreenHomes America, which specializes in energy-efficient improvements. In addition to sealing gaps in the attic floor and framing, Rogers recommends upping insulation levels to R-49 or even as high as R-60 for most areas of the country.

HOW TO DO IT:
If insulation is level with or below the ceiling joists, add loose fiberglass or cellulose—even over existing batts—using a rented blower. Make sure the material is well distributed, with no low spots. “Even a small gap greatly undermines performance,” Rogers says.

THE PAYOFF:
Up to 10 percent savings on your utility bills.

2. Button Up Interior Doors to the Basement and Garage
WHY NOW:
It’s not just the front and back doors that you need to worry about. Cold air can also enter the house through gaps around any door leading to an uninsulated space, such as a garage or basement.

HOW TO DO IT:
Weatherstrip the top and sides, and add an inexpensive door sweep to the bottom. TOH general contractor Tom Silva recommends a wood sweep that you can stain or paint to match your door and that has an attached nylon brush to follow the contours of irregular flooring or carpeting. Sweeps usually need to be cut to size, so be sure to measure the width of the door first. To insulate the top and lock-side jambs, use peel-and-stick high-density foam tape or nail-on vinyl gaskets. For the hinge-side jamb, a premium adhesive-backed strip made of EDPM rubber will retain its shape after years of use.

THE PAYOFF:
For $20 and 30 minutes of your time, reduce cold air infiltration by as much as 11 percent.

3. Seal Exhaust Vents
WHY NOW:
Exterior vents, particularly those for a clothes dryer or a whole-house fan, allow heated air to seep out of your house, while letting cold outside air in.

HOW TO DO IT:
Swap your dryer’s louvered or metal flapper-style vent for a Dryer Vent Seal (About $20; Battic Door), which consists of an elbow pipe topped with a plastic cap and shuttle. When the dryer is in use, the floating shuttle beneath the hood rises to let warm air, lint, and moisture escape. When not in use, the shuttle drops down to seal the hole and prevent drafts.

THE PAYOFF:
Vent sealing can prevent 4 percent of your home’s heated air from escaping.

Noblesville Holiday Events

The City of Noblesville along with Noblesville Main Street, the Chamber of Commerce, and Hamilton County, are finalizing plans for the upcoming holiday activities and would like to invite the public to attend. The season will kick off on Friday, November 25 at 7pm with the annual Lighting Ceremony, sponsored by the Noblesville Chamber of Commerce. This event, held at the Hamilton County Judicial Center, is always a hit with families and includes special holiday music, a reading of The Night Before Christmas by Mayor John Ditslear, and of course, the lighting of the beautiful downtown lights.

The holiday festivities will then continue on Sunday, November 27 at 2pm with the annual Christmas parade. This year the city is honoring Sam Watson as the grand marshal. As always, the holiday parade will mark the debut of Santa Claus to Noblesville for the season! Boys and girls are invited to stop by Santa’s house on the courthouse square after the parade or during the hours listed below and tell him what they would like for Christmas. There is no charge to visit with Santa and parents are welcome to bring their own camera.

The fun then continues on Friday, December 2 from 5:30pm – 8pm at the First Friday event, sponsored by Noblesville Main Street and the City of Noblesville. The downtown shops and restaurants will be featuring special sales, Santa Claus will be in his house, and other fun events will be taking place. This will be the last first Friday event until May, so don’t miss out!

For information about the Lighting Ceremony, contact the Noblesville Chamber of Commerce at (317) 773-0086. For information about the parade or Santa’s house, call (317) 776-6367. For information about the First Friday event, call Noblesville Main Street at (317) 776-0205.

Violations: Most Wanted

Want to avoid a violation notice? Here are the infractions to be most mindful of:

1. Trash Cans: When left out for pickup, all trash should fit inside the can and the lid should be closed. After pickup, trash cans should be put away within 24 hours either in the garage or against the home NOT visible from the street in front of the home.

2. Lawn Care: A healthy height for your mower blade is three inches. Marilyn Ridge covenants require a height of no more than six inches. Violations will also be sent for weeds growing in sidewalk cracks as well as excessive weeds in the lawn.

3. Poop: It should go without saying to clean up after a pet, but here we go again: Clean up after your pet. This applies to your personal property and community areas. Doggy pots are provided at the gazebo park and at the north end of the pond. Your dues pay for them so you may as well use them.

4. Tree Trimming: The trees growing in the strip of grass between the street and sidewalk are city owned and homeowner maintained. Branches on your street tree should be trimmed so that those walking on the sidewalk do not need to bend down to walk under them.

5. Stuff Left Out: Toys, bikes, furniture, lawn mowers, and anything else left out on a resident’s lawn that creates a cluttered appearance should be taken in as soon as possible. Basically, if it doesn’t belong on the yard or in the driveway, please put it away. ***This can be a tricky violation. Sometimes a vioation drive-through occurs when, for example, you couldn’t spread mulch because of a few rainy days and had to leave the bags out in your driveway. You know that you plan to use the mulch and left it out only temporarily. The board does not know that. Please keep in mind that the first letter is a friendly reminder, not a scolding.

6. Lighting: Please keep working bulbs in all of your outdoor lighting. Please turn on your front porch light at dusk for safety and consider doing the same with your outdoor garage lights.

7. Street Parking: The street is a street, not a parking lot. Parking on the street is temporary only, meaning not longer than 24 hours. Each garage in Marilyn Ridge is equipped to store at least one automobile. Add to that the driveway and every homeowner can park at least two cars on his/her own property. THIS IS ESPECIALLY IMPORTANT IN THE COMING WINTER MONTHS WHEN PLOWS WILL BE ATTEMPTING TO CLEAR THE STREETS. PARK YOUR CAR ON THE STREET AND IT WILL BE SNOWED IN.

8. Fencing: The L-shaped white fences on corner lots are owned by the community. Weird? Maybe. But that is how it was left by CP Morgan and it takes an outrageously unlikely vote to change it. (Attend annual meetings to make changes like this.) Homeowners on these lots CANNOT take down or alter these fences. They may, however add to them, ONLY if approval is gained from the Architectural Review Committee.
ANY FENCING PLANS MUST BE APPROVED BY THE ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW COMMITTEE AND MAY REQUIRE A PERMIT FROM THE CITY. THE HOA BOARD AND/OR THE CITY CAN AND MAY PERSUE LEGAL OPTIONS AGAINST HOMEOWNERS WITH UNAPPROVED FENCES.
